SEOS™ – Skyera Enterprise Solid-state Operating System

Combining solid-state hardware, storage, and data management, Skyera’s SEOS solid-state operating system offers a symphony of capabilities specifically optimized for the unique demands of Skyera’s purpose-built enterprise solid-state storage systems. Unlike other flash storage software offerings, the Skyera team has developed critical SEOS performance features directly in hardware, eliminating overhead and actually increasing overall performance.

Solid-state Hardware Management

More than your typical Flash Translation Layer, Skyera’s vertically integrated hardware/software stack minimizes communication and workflow between the system, RAID and Flash controllers, and eliminates the unnecessary APIs between typical storage operating system layers. Performance-critical functionality like compression and de-duplication in hardware improve overall system performance versus competing software-based implementations, while our proprietary RAID-SE offers better reliability than RAID-6 with three times less writes to the flash storage.

Solid-state Hardware Management features:

  • RAID-SE
  • Compression
  • De-duplication
  • AES Encryption
  • Flash physics manipulation
  • Adaptive reads/writes

Storage Management

Skyera has simplified Storage Quality of Service administration, set up, and maintenance with three easy to understand storage pools – Gold, Silver, and Bronze – each offering different Service Level Agreements (SLAs). LUNs created in the Gold pool will support capacity “reserved” for each LUN and IO bandwidth up to skyHawk’s physical bandwidth capacity. Silver pool LUNs will support “reserved” capacity, with a “best effort” per-LUN IO bandwidth. Bronze pool storage capacity and IO bandwidth will be provisioned on a best effort basis. Additionally, Thin Provisioning allows sufficient capacity for servers while reducing file system management on the host side. In addition to basic LUN management capabilities, SEOS supports dynamic LUN resizing and full performance and usage statistics.

Storage Management features

  • Storage QoS
  • Performance monitoring
  • Comprehensive LUN management
  • Dynamic LUN resizing
  • Thin provisioning
  • Wear-leveling
  • Advanced flash data recovery
  • Fail-in-place (hot spare)
  • Call home
  • Converged network management

Data Management

Organizations rely on storage to provide accurate and timely access to business-critical data. SEOS data management layer offers a wide range of capabilities to manage, protect and seamlessly replicate data across the entire storage array. Consistency groups are used in conjunction with Instant Snapshots and Writeable Clones for data consistency, whether for data backup or replication of virtual environments. Additionally, all data under SEOS is encrypted on the storage system against unauthorized access.

The Web-based GUI allows easy and intuitive access from any device on the network. All storage functionality is supported in the GUI as well as via command-line interface. Performance an usage statistics can be viewed in real-time or logged for reporting and analysis.

Data Management features

  • No Overhead Instant snapshots
  • Consistency groups
  • Writeable clones
  • Data encryption at rest
  • GUI, CLI, and XML interfaces
